There is more tragic news to report…both coming out of Rural Belize District. It includes a sudden death and a fatal traffic accident. Around two-thirty on Saturday morning, twenty-four year old prosecutor, Ryan Martinez and a female friend, twenty-two year old Irene Sanchez, were heading towards Ladyville when the Lincoln car they were traveling in crashed into a tree on the right hand side of the Phillip Goldson Highway. Martinez died on the spot, but Sanchez was rushed to the K.H.M.H. in a stable condition.
Insp. Frederick Gordon, Rural Executive Officer
“On Sunday morning at about two-forty thereabout, police received information of an accident between miles five and six just after the Haulover Bridge whereby a Lincoln car was seen with extensive damage with the person inside it.”
Duane Moody
“What has the investigation shown so far as to what led to the accident?”
Insp. Frederick Gordon
“Well it appears, from our investigation, that the person was traveling from Belize City to Ladyville and just after the Haulover, he ran into a tree on the left hand side of the road traveling towards Ladyville.”
Duane Moody
“He lost control due to what? Is it because he was intoxicated, a tired burst or what?”
Insp. Frederick Gordon
“Well at least from the view of the incident from the vehicle, there was no blowout with respect of the accident and we are investigating the accident at this time.”
Duane Moody
“Does he have any previous incidents? Mister Ryan Martinez, I believe that is his name.”
Insp. Frederick Gordon
“Mister Ryan Martinez was the driver in the accident. We have nothing of sort that he was involved in any mishaps or any accidents before. He was along with a female companion who also received injuries from the accident.”
Duane Moody
“What’s her condition right now?”
Insp. Frederick Gordon
“We understand she is in a stable condition at the Karl Heusner and is to be released sometime today.”
There was another fatality over the weekend, but it occurred in the south. In the banana belt, thirty year old Juan Emilio Gutierrez was killed on Sunday morning just after six. Gutierrez, a Salvadoran national employed at Cowpen Village, suffered a motorcycle accident at a banana farm located on the outskirts of Bella Vista, Stann Creek District. He was found lifeless in a drain with multiple injuries to his back. Police say that Gutierrez was travelling toward banana farm two when he collided into a drain and died on the spot.
