Today his cup runneth over. News Five has confirmed that following the granting of a writ of execution, City Hall was visited by a court marshall this afternoon, and he wasn’t bearing gifts for the Christmas season. He was there to crowfoot two trucks belonging to the Council, in an attempt to recover monies owed to Belize Waste Control. It’s not a huge sum, less than fifty-thousand, which is the balance remaining from an old judgment – an over five hundred thousand dollar debt to BWC which City Hall was ordered to pay. Mayor Bradley is not in the country, we are told, but we managed to get a few words from City Councillor Phillip Willoughby.

Phillip Willoughby, City Councillor

“What transpired early on this afternoon is that the costs awarded to Belize Waste Control attorneys…that amount was not paid and that was the issue and that is resolved.”

Reporter

“What do you mean resolved? Talk to us about that.”

Phillip Willoughby

“Well within the judgment, there’s an admission of costs, so the cost has to be paid, and that has been dealt with.”

Reporter

“How was that dealt with sir?”

Phillip Willoughby

“We have to pay sir.”

Reporter

“How much is that quantum at this time?”

Phillip Willoughby

“Seven thousand six hundred sir.”

Reporter

“Sir was there anybody from the court here to oversee that situation? To ensure that it was paid?”

Phillip Willoughby

“Sir that will be dealt with…long and short it has been dealt with. But the payment won’t be afforded today since the Mayor is out of the country but we agreed and we understand what the situation is and it’s being dealt with sir.”

And when the Mayor does get back, he will have to deal with a heaping helping of more bad news. Belize Waste Control attorneys have filed a new claim for six hundred and twenty-thousand dollars owed to the sanitation company. That payment is for services tendered up to date.
