A post mortem examination was conducted on the body of twenty-six year old police constable Roy Robert Fernandez today to ascertain whether the cause of death was the result of a violent thrashing he suffered at the hands of a pair of siblings in Georgetown Village over a week ago. Fernandez died in Independence Village on Saturday while waiting to be transported to the Southern Regional Hospital. Earlier that day, the officer complained of an unbearable pain in his body and was taken to the polyclinic in Independence to seek medical attention. It is reported that Fernandez, who was vacationing with his family, was in the company of two women during the early hours of Sunday, August fourth, when he was brutally attacked by one of their ex-boyfriend and his brother. In the wake of the beating, Fernandez refused to make a report of the incident to police. Likewise, he obstinately declined to see a doctor. Following his demise, Independence police have detained two men, presumably the Castillo brothers, for questioning. The results of the autopsy are yet to be released.
