Where is Mayor Darrell Bradley’s taxpayer-funded late model Toyota Hilux? That’s the question everybody’s been asking for a week now, and nobody at the City Hall is saying. Well, tonight we think we have the answer for you. The Mayor’s official ride was totalled in an accident on the Phillip Goldson Highway last Friday. The accident happened near the Crooked Tree junction, when the vehicle ran off the road and overturned. Now here’s where it gets interesting. The vehicle, we are told, was being driven by Councillor Alifah Elrington, who is also the Mayor’s law partner. She was returning from a private case in Corozal. But Elrington didn’t report the accident when it happened. Police didn’t even know it had happened, because the vehicle was towed from the scene shortly after. Authorities only found out early this week, days after, when Elrington visited the Ladyville Police Station to make the report. We are reliably informed that she had to make the report because the insurance company does not pay unless there is a Police report attached. It caused some concern at the Station, we are told, because in this case Police personnel can only take Elrington’s version of what happened. We’ve been following this story all week, but like we said, the Mayor’s not talking and neither is anybody else, which leaves us to wonder why there’s so much secrecy surrounding the accident.
