This morning, former Immigration Minister turned public pariah, Elvin Penner, had eggs, but it wasn’t sunny side up and it wasn’t for breakfast. The former U.D.P. Minister, who was fired for his role in immigration offences primarily for facilitating a passport to a jailed South Korean fugitive, was stoned with eggs by protesters gathered in his honour as he walked down the Supreme Court steps. It happened after he gave a brief statement to the media, his first since his fall from grace a year and a half ago, in September 2013. Penner was in Court for an appeal of his acquittal last year, and we’ll have the details of that…but first we start with his descent from the Court-room and brief encounter with the media and P.U.P. protesters gathered outside.

“The trial is in process, and I’m not going to say if I would even comment afterwards. All I will say is that it is still with the Magistrate, and I cannot comment. I am satisfied with how the case is going so far. What I would advise to the media is to try and go and chase something out there that is not a ghost. We have a person out there in Orange Walk that has been charged for an offence that is in my view far greater than anything that has been alleged about me. Why don’t you chase that matter instead of chasing this matter here? Make some prioritization. Make some prioritization…”
