October 2013 – the story of missing monies from the Southern Regional Hospital had surfaced on the media with a report of three hundred and sixty seven thousand dollars missing. Investigations began and the Office of the Auditor General had declared that the then Administrator of the Southern Regional Hospital, Nasley Somerville was the person responsible for the one hundred and eighty nine cheques that were fraudulently drawn down over a period of three years. A year and a half later, after appearing before the Public Services Commission on two occasions, the PSC has officially dismissed Somerville from the public service via a letter sent to her earlier this week. Somerville has been claiming that the signatures on the cheques were not hers and today, she remains firm in that argument. So much so, that her attorney, Andrew Bennett told members of the media that they will be appealing to the Belize Advisory Council.

Bennett told Love News on what grounds the appeal to the Belize Advisory Council will be done.

Interestingly, while the PSC has terminated Somerville from the public service, criminal charges are yet to be levied against her and it is uncertain if the Government will ever recover the over quarter million dollars.
