The PetroCaribe Bill has stirred reaction from various corners of the country but more dominantly by the Opposition Party, particularly, Cayo South Area Representative, Julius Espat. Espat is supported by his party, the PUP and today, the Leader of the Opposition, Francis Fonseca told the media that he would be sending a letter to the Prime Minister in which he will give him twenty one days to repeal the Act and should he fail to do so, the PUP will take the matter to the streets.
Very strong words from Fonseca to the Prime Minister … but not strong enough as the PM, Dean Barrow says he won’t budge. As a matter of fact, the Prime Minister went further in his comment to throw the possibility out there of suing the Opposition Leader following his comments on Barrow passing the Bill to shun from possible criminal charges against him.
But while the Prime Minister says there is no turning back on the PetroCaribe Bill and the use of the monies, he did say that for those who have genuine concerns on certain aspects of the Bill, he would be willing to tweak and improve the document.
We will have more on the PetroCaribe issue among other national concerns in tomorrow’s newscast as the Prime Minister has called a press conference.
