Following the lengthy two and a half hour discussion, Minister of Health Pablo Marin would emerge optimistic, bearing what can only be described cautiously as good news since none of the representatives in that meeting would disclose the details of the agreements met. The good news, first and foremost for patients of K.H.M.H., is as we told you that the go-slow had been called off effective immediately and things around the hospital would return to normal before the end of the day. As for the demands the staff has made based on the proposed salary adjustments, it is unconfirmed what it is they will be receiving.
Pablo Marin, Minister of Health
“I’m very happy, we came out up with a decision to take out a press release. Nobody can talk but definitely everybody is, we’re on the right track and things will come out right.”
Reporter
“The public wants to know when will full services be restored at the K.H.M.H.?”
Pablo Marin
“It’s already back to full services. What they told us is that the services had never been stopped, it will continue and that is what’s going to happen.”
Reporter
“Okay, but there were elective surgeries that were taken out, certain specialist clinics were made unavailable. Will those be available going forward?”
Pablo Marin
“Sure, that will be and we will have a little timeframe for us to have that discussion and it will happen. It will start.”
Reporter
“Okay, now I get the impression just from back channels throughout that you have more or less been on the side of the staff, in terms of fighting for them to get the increase. Have they been given a kind of raw deal, in terms of every public worker has received this eighteen, nineteen percent from the government but these people have not?”
Pablo Marin
“Well I think the first was the P.S.U. fighting for the increment and not including K.H.M.H. As you know, they’re an essential services and I think that was the part that went wrong from the beginning. But now government is working along with them and things will happen for K.H.M.H.”
Reporter
“Things will happen means they will get their raise?”
Pablo Marin
“We will work with them, we’ll work along with them. Remember, we’re going to give a press release and we don’t want to say more than that and things will happen for K.H.M.H. We know that it’s an essential service, the people from K.H.M.H. work very hard for our people and a majority or every referral that is sent to K.H.M.H. they work at it. Many people are saved and we are happy about that so we have to do our part also.”
