NEMO Issues Third Warning

October 17, 2015

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) hereby informs that
the area of low pressure continues to produce shower and thunderstorm
activity; while the circulation of the low has become a little better
defined today, significant development is not expected through tonight.

The low is expected to continue move slowly west-northwestward across
Belize.

Some development is possible on Sunday or Monday if the low emerges into
the southern Bay of Campeche.

An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to
investigate this system Sunday afternoon, if necessary.

Regardless of tropical cyclone formation, this system will likely
produce heavy rainfall across northern, coastal and western Belize.

In the Corozal District water went into the homes of twenty families who
are now drying out in the community shelter.

A Backhoe is being arranged to dig a drain to the sea to allow the water
to run off at low tide.

One family at the entrance of Corozal Town was affected earlier this
morning when water went into their home.

The matter was dealt with by the District Coordinator and the Mayor.

In the Orange Walk district there are no reports of flooding.

In the Belize District the Rivers and Creeks have not reached flood stage.

In the Cayo District the village chairman and the Santa Familia Search
and Rescue Team are in the area of San Marcos checking on families who
were reported to be stranded in their home.

Water levels behind the dams are at normal level.

There are no reports of flooding on the Mopan and Macal rivers.

In the Stann Creek District the families that were in the Hope Creek
Methodist School Shelter are back in their home.

In the Toledo District the Temash and Moho rivers are six and five feet
respectively above normal.

Blue Creek is normal.

All are advised that more flooding is anticipated.

People who live along rivers, creeks water ways and low-lying areas
whose home is likely to flood are cautioned to move to a high and safe
building with friends or family or in the community shelter.

Drivers are asked to slow down and put on their hazard lights when
driving through rain.
