Earlier today, we caught up with the Minister of Education at an award ceremony for top national students who bested the CESC and CAPE. We’ll have that story coming up. The Minister of Education used the occasion to address burning issues including the situation up north where there is a threat of strike by cane farmers. But Faber says that the sky is not falling, after all in respect of government performance.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“If you have been tuned in to the airwaves and the media over the last two weeks, maybe even a couple months now, you may be aware of an apparent insidious coordinated attempt—I would say politically—to discredit a lot of what this government has done. Even when we have done well, somehow if one little thing is going wrong, it is used to taint the entire effort of the government. There is an attempt to paint a picture that there is a general lack of accountability in this government and that we are somehow obstructionist in this regard. Yet it is this government that have passed laws for the recall of elected representatives that is now being used.  Similarly if you listen to what is played out in the airwaves, you would think that this government is in favor of foreign investor over our local cane farmers, yet it was the government that a couple years was able to get this strategic investor to ensure that the industry would survive for the benefit of the cane farmers and for all Belizeans. And it is this government that is calling the parties to go back to the negotiating table to work out an agreement. If you live in Belize City and if you listen to certain airwaves, you would think that the City Council was not working.”
