A glaring concern expressed not only by Cervantes Junior but by residents of Orange Walk is that the three men arrested – Noe Gonzalez, Mateo Pott and Angel Antonio Cardenas – do not have the resources to have orchestrated the kidnapping and murder. The Cervantes family is convinced that it’s way bigger than that and goes far deeper. They say it wasn’t about money – it was a hit on Ramon Cervantes Senior.
Ramon Cervantes Jr., Unhappy with investigation
“This conspiracy this plot to kidnap and kill my father goes deeper than these guys that were charged and arrested. Those guys don’t have the finances to carry out an operation of this magnitude. It involves heavy duty vehicle, not cheap broken up vehicle, it involved possibly a policeman with the handcuffs, it involves money and these guys don’t have that type of money. And if that technicality or if they were indeed charged after the time that the law allows and they will be freed it also puts my family to believe that maybe these guys are just escape goats. So more questions are turning up than answers. And that is why we need to speed up the process in getting more people in. The vehicle in which my father was transported has not been found, the driver the owner has not been found we don’t know why. And those are things that are very disconcerting and very troubling. This doesn’t stop here we want to know the motive, we want to know the main conspirator, who financed this operation, who is at the head of this operation. That is what we want to know because it is a fact, my dad was not kidnapped to extort money out of our family. He was killed, it was a contract or a hit to kill him, the facts establish that, it’s not just what we feel but the fact establish that.”
Cervantes says his family is not clear about the motive, but he is not ruling out politics at this point.
