Twenty-three-year-old Jamal Ariola, an inmate of the Belize Central Prison, was the victim of a stabbing incident on Wednesday morning when a fellow prisoner stabbed him multiple times with a shiv. At around ten a.m., while conversing with twenty-year-old Giovanni Ramirez in the prison yard, Ariola says he felt a sharp pain on the left side of the chest. He then observed Ramirez with a sharpened metal object known as a bora in his hands. The vicious assault would continue as Ariola was reportedly stabbed multiple times on the hand, the back and left foot. He was admitted to the medic center for treatment, where his injuries were subsequently classified as superficial. Police were later able to recover a six-inch instrument from the scene of the incident. Meanwhile, Ramirez remains at the Belize Central Prison pending charges for wounding.
