The People’s United Party has called on the police to carry out and complete an investigation into the matter. That seems distinctly unlikely, based on the response by the police on Monday and also based on past experience. Faber has been in trouble at least twice before – once when he threw a cement block through the windshield of his estranged wife’s vehicle, and again when he collided into a police vehicle and fled the scene. Neither incident made it onto the police sit-rep, nor was he charged for either incident. So it’s likely this one will go much the same, but that doesn’t stop the P.U.P. from calling for the right thing to be done.

Lisa Shoman, Senator, People’s United Party

“I honestly expect the Police to do their job. Who doesn’t like that, who has a problem with that…I am sorry for them. But power doesn’t mean that you get a break on what is right and what is wrong. This is someone who by his own admission has been involved in a situation with either his former or estranged wife, I’m not sure which…and who sees to believe that he is above any sort of scrutiny. And I found it very telling that he was saying that he was going to say nothing because he wished to preserve, quote, unquote…a friendship. If that is the curtain he is hiding behind, coupled with some allegation that this is a private and not a public matter, and the Police refuses to investigation – then the women of Belize can rest assured that when someone powerful is involved, nothing will happen. That is not a state of affairs that any citizen and responsible citizen can accept, and we must all condemn that. At the very least the Police must investigate, and Patrick Faber must come clean to the nation of Belize and tell the nation what it was that happened. And if he needs help for either anger issues or alcohol issues, he should get that help.”

While the P.U.P. has issued a strongly worded release echoing the sentiments of Senator Shoman, the United Democratic Party has not commented on the assault, neither officially or unofficially.
