Voice of: Ashton McKenzie, Detained in Guatemala
“They rubbed us down. They asked us questions about our occupations, where we lived, the names of our parents and so forth. After processing that information on the road. After that we were taken to the Police Station in San Luis where again we were questioned, pictures were taken of us. They put us in the Police mobile, the sirens were turned on and they moved us through town to the Courthouse. The Judge then listened to the same officer who was intoxicated, but what he did he went home and he put on his military uniform and he was there to give his statement. So then he gave his statement and at that point in time he basically told a blatant lie. He told the Judge that we were intoxicated with alcohol and we were giving battery at the restaurant, so that is what he told them right in front of us. My Spanish speaking colleagues can attest to that. It is also…because they gave us a report…it is also in the report by Guatemalan authorities that we were giving battery. That is what the military officer told them, which is a total lie against us.”
