An arrest is yet to be made in the weekend murder of twenty-year-old Malik Dixon, who was fatally shot as he rode a bicycle along Flamboyant Street on Saturday night. Toony, as he is popularly known, is affiliated with the Ghost Town Crips and, according to Belize City police, his death may have been gang related. Dixon was shot twice in an area of Saint Martin’s known as Third World. His attacker, believed to be a member of the PIV gang, made good his escape despite the proximity of the Mahogany Street Precinct. Over the past few weeks, efforts have been made by the police department to call a ceasefire between feuding groups across Belize City, including the PIV and Ghost Town Gangs. Senior Superintendent Chester Williams has gone on record to say that the latest murder does not symbolize a breakdown in peace talks. In fact, he told the media on Monday that they have remained in constant communication with the leadership of the Ghost Town Gang and have been assured that there will not be any reprisals for the senseless murder.
