Adrian Myvette

There was more violence over the weekend. In Burrell Boom, eight expended shells were found at the scene of a shooting just before midnight on Saturday. The victim, Adrian Myvette, remains hospitalized for injuries to the abdomen and back. Myvette was heading home when an assailant rode up and ambushed him. Two are detained and there is speculation that the shooting stems from a beef between rivaling groups.  Duane Moody has a report.

Duane Moody, Reporting

Twenty-eight year old Adrian Myvette of the Butter Cup Area in Burrell Boom is tonight in stable condition at the K.H.M.H. following a shooting incident in the village. Myvette was socializing near the Community Center and as he approached near the entrance to the horse race track he was shot three times by someone he knew, who is also a resident of the village.

“One shot he heard?”

Voice of: Common-Law-Wife of Shooting Victim

“Well ih get shot one time and then ih drop. Ih say ih di laid down about four to five minutes or little bit more, then ih jump up and run cross way. And dah then ih fired the rest of shot.”

Duane Moody

“So he ran into bushes?”

Voice of: Common-Law-Wife of Shooting Victim

“Yes and then two shots ketch ahn ina ih back. The doctor told us this morning it was three shots—one in the abdomen and the other two was lodged in the back. So far, the doctor said inside was quite messed up a little; they patched it up to the best. Right now it is side and side (fifty-fifty). The problem is that it is opened up to any infection right about now; that is the only fear they have right now. So dehn di monitor ahn make sure ih noh ketch no infection.”

Promoter, Alvin Flowers of Legend One, had a back-to-school promotion event at the Community Center.  He turned Good Samaritan, when on his way home from the event, detected a wounded Myvette and rushed him to the hospital in Belize City.

Alvin Flowers, Assisted Myvette

“We took the equipment back home. Upon arriving at a lane in front of the race track, I saw person leaning over like sitting on the ground. So I stopped to render assistance. Upon that, I came to the knowledge that it was someone I knew, I know. So right away I picked him up, put him in the truck, come put the equipment down and immediately took him to the hospital.   I noticed that he had a hole in his chest so I know it was serious so right away I know that I gotta drive fast and take him to the hospital.”

It is rumored that the shooting was as a result of a territorial rivalry in the village.

Duane Moody

“You said that he says he is not known to have no beef with him, between them.”

Voice of: Common-Law-Wife of Shooting Victim

“No, not with that young man. One lee exchanging of words the other day and it was not really he and the young man; it was another friend of the young man.”

Duane Moody

“Maybe retaliation for that?”

Voice of: Common-Law-Wife of Shooting Victim

“Well like I tell you, I noh have no problem with this young man; neither does Myvett. All I woulda want know why?”

Duane Moody

“People di say dah wah beef, dah wah rivalry di happen up deh.”

Voice of: Common-Law-Wife of Shooting Victim

“Yes. But noh get the game wrong. We don’t have a beef with him. it was his friends, not him. We noh have a problem with him.”

ASP, Christopher Noble, Rural Executive Officer, Police Department

“What we are looking at is the incident on a whole and looking at what may have caused it. That information is still what we are delving into and it may as well as being from the outside or be something that is from within the village. Whether it is rivalry or not, I cannot readily say. But we will look into it. And if it is, we will work it out.”

According to Rural Executive Officer of the Police Department, Assistant Superintendent Christopher Noble, two persons are currently in custody.

ASP, Christopher Noble

“We have very minimal information. We know that somebody is at the Karl Heusner; the hospital authorities there have been doing their best to deal with him. We have two persons in custody. We are continuing our investigation and what we have so far is that we are following up on a shooting incident in Burrell Boom.”
