Tonight a tangled web of abduction, criminal conspiracy and violent murder in the Orange Walk district continues to dominate the news. We can report that the body of a second person, a woman, was found in a well on a farm on the Honey Camp road, five miles out of Orange Walk Town. Police were allegedly led to the body by the same man who led them to the shallow grave of Ramon Cervantes Sr. Official information is still scarce, and Mike Rudon has been up north since Sunday looking for answers.

At around four thirty pm on Tuesday, there was a noticable increase in activity at the Orange Walk Police Station. CIB personnel were obviously gearing up for something big. At the same time unconfirmed reports of a second body started circulating. Just after five, Police personnel left the scene, accompanied by two men who were detained for involvement in the kidnapping and murder of Ramon Cervantes Sr.

Body0006-150x150.jpgPolice were taken to this location on the Honey Camp road, a farm immediately next to the farm where the body of Ramon Cervantes Sr. was discovered on Saturday night. At around five-thirty they started digging in this area, roughly two hundred feet away from Cervantes’ shallow grave. Night fell, with no success.

Body0005-150x150.jpgThe digging continued early this morning. This time Police had enlisted the aid of a backhoe and were digging in a wide area near a well. Police presence was heavy…not only on the immediate site, but also guarding the area. After several hours, they seemed to be having little success. But by eleven thirty, the worst fears of Police were realized as they started unearthing bones. The forensics squad arrived shortly after, and about an hour after that word filtered out that the remains were that of a woman.

Police believe the body is that of forty-six year old Sonia Maribel Abac, missing since April twenty-third. Even as Police headed to the site Tuesday evening, Abac’s husband, Alejandro Perez, already suspected that the news would be bad.

“On the twenty-third of April at four-thirty, she took a taxi and went with a lady and since then I haven’t heard from here. I fear the worst because I don’t know anything. I haven’t heard from her. I searched and haven’t found her.”

At two-thirty this afternoon a family member was to the site to identify the remains, but at news time Police have not provided official verification. Miek Rudon for News Five.
