Chair of the Board Chandra Nisbet-Cansino broke the news to the media on Tuesday, but today News Five got the chance to put the questions to Ministry of Health C.E.O. Peter Allen and Minister of Health Pablo Marin. When asked about the K.H.M.H. Board’s three recent, very significant actions in regards to C.E.O. Gary Longsworth, former Finance Director Carlos Perera and the newly commissioned audit, C.E.O. Allen made it clear that the Ministry had total knowledge of those decisions, and is in total support.

“Of course it’s of concern but I am very proud of the fact that when we see things that are of concern we take an appropriate response. Certainly as you can see there is never any attempt to hide or cover these things up and indeed as in the case of Karl Heusner, we hope that there is nothing wrong but we will await the results of an investigation that will be done by an independent and official body, the Auditor General’s Office.”

“But sir, you said that you are proud that audits have been done but are you confident that the Ministry of Health has acted on the recommendation coming out of at least two audits that we have seen before, the one from the Central region and the one from the Southern Region that we have seen done?”

Peter Allen

“Well of course we have acted within our authority, actually I was trying to speak to the police in the Dangriga so I could have an update for you today, the investigating officer, Sergeant Perifino was not there today and the director of Public Prosecution is away and the acting Director is in court but it is those agencies along with the Public Service Commission that are acting on our recommendation and our report from the Auditor General Department for both the Southern Region and for the Central Health Region. I do understand that the Public Service Commission has scheduled hearings for the issues related to the South and we will await the results of those hearings but the ministry of Health is not the authority that is authorized to take disciplinary actions so that falls under the different ministries.”
